Together we are strong

Anyone who thinks of sport less in terms of fun and more in terms of sweaty toil should definitely be inspired by the Special Olympics Deutschland and be taught a better lesson by the participants. The many athletes with mental or multiple disabilities who competed in 15 disciplines in Hamm in June tried hard and gave their best – but at the same time they celebrated a great festival of joy and encounter. The very special atmosphere of this sports week could also be felt in the surroundings of Hamm.

Sporting ambition meets voluntary commitment: Whether long jump, sprint or skid-ball – the Special Olympics in Hamm are all about having fun with sport. Our volunteers support the athletes on site and cheer diligently.

The 20 volunteers can also look back on a successful week packed full of emotion. They helped the 674 athletes and contributed immensely to inclusion in and through sport – in line with the “Together strong” motto – a principle that is of the utmost importance to the foundation.

Nadine Frey, explains: “It was beautiful to see how professionally everyone interacted with the athletes and how involved they were in their activities. But what thrilled me most of all was the joy that was obvious among the athletes.”
